Cruise on the Stanford Lagoon, perfect afternoon activity on a hot day!

My Mom and Dad visited from Holland over the Christmas period. They were obviously very excited to meet Rosie and spend time with us. I live in an apartment and December is Summer time in Cape Town so I felt like going on a road trip and spend Christmas out in the country side and just chill.

Bluegum Country Estate  (web site currently under construction I noticed) was one of the first accommodations I visited when I set up my travel company in 2004. I had stayed there myself in 2008 and then noticed it was a little bit in need of TLC. When Anton, the new owner, contacted me in 2012 to give me an update, I was delighted to hear that they’re back on track and ready to welcome and pamper guests on their beautiful estate just outside Stanford

I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to take my parents and Rosie and explore the Stanford area over Christmas. I love that area but then again, I still have to find an area in South Africa that I don’t love. I don’t think it exists. Oh well, I guess the R21 between OR Tambo and Pretoria is not very exciting…

Anyway, I booked us in for 2 nights in a family cottage. This consists of 2 rooms and a bathroom and kitchenette. Everything was very spacious and there was a baby cot for Rosie with lovely linen. Bluegum is very kids friendly and they welcome many families.

At the time, Rosie couldn’t sit yet so we just brought the Bugaboo into the dining area which was not a problem. Bluegum has a wonderful kitchen so we enjoyed all our meals incredibly. Especially me because I didn’t need to cook for 2 days. Yay!

My favorite outing was our little cruise on the Stanford Lagoon. I just love boats and being on the water. We also took a drive to Elim, missionary village and had a little tour of this beautiful, little village in the middle of nowhere.
